Finding Plus Size bridal advice.

Finding information about being a Plus Size bride hasn’t always been easy. But this year we have been really lucky that multiple outlets have asked us for bridal advice.

Find Your Dream Dress

Find Your Dream Dress asked for our ‘Best dress shopping tips for curvy brides’. We work with Find Your Dream Dress and are listed in their directory. So they asked us some questions.

find your dream dress

What they said:

“Wedding dress shopping as a fuller-figured bride can be tricky – which is why the lovely Rebecca opened her Plus Size bridal boutique Edith & Winston back in 2014! We catch up with her to get best dress shopping tips for curvy brides…”

What can a bride expect when she books an appointment at Edith & Winston?

Brides can email or call me before their first appointment. Often, with the reservations that a plus size bride can have, they have lots of questions. Brides can contact me and ask me anything and hopefully I can help reassure them that it’s going to be really fun time. We always give brides a two-hour appointment, so it gives you enough time to feel settled before you start trying on.

She Might Be Magazine

When Georgina Grogan told me about her new venture – ‘She Might Be’ I really hoped that we could be a part somehow. It’s really important for brides to understand the time frames that are needed for ordering your wedding dress. The wonderful team behind She Might Be allowed me the opportunity to write what I wanted to and I loved having the chance. Here’s a little snippet to read more please click on the link:

‘Do not be put off having the experience of wedding dress shopping because of the number on the label. It’s just a number and it’s not worth putting yourself through unnecessary stress. Wedding dress shopping is fun, there are so many great designers and boutiques out there now that cater to you. We have met so many nervous brides, we have them in all shapes and size gowns, and we have a laugh and a giggle. Not every dress is going to suit you, you may refer to yourself as a sausage in one, but the next will make you feel like a princess. With the boning in the right places and the perfect fit, you will feel amazing on your wedding day. Even if you don’t find your dress with me, I want you to enjoy your appointment.’

Lifesize magazine reached out to me and wanted me to help them with their latest piece – helping Plus Size brides find their wedding dress. They spoke to myself and also Lori Conley, Divisional Merchandise Manager for Bridal and Flower Girl for David’s Bridal.  It was nice to be referred to as a bridal specialist and answering their questions.

Our Bride – Nicola

Our Bride blog plus size

Our bride Nicola married Simon at the Belle Epoque in Knutsford, Cheshire in November last year. She wore a lace fit & flare gown by Callista Bridal with bespoke straps and cap sleeves in matching lace. We first met Nicola many months before, when one day she was passing our shop and the dress in the window caught her eye. The dress on the mannequin was called ‘Zurich’. Nicola had an idea of what style of dress she wanted for her special day, and the dress on the mannequin turned out to be ‘the one’. We ordered enough matching lace, and added a corset back in replacement of the zip. Nicola also had a bespoke satin edged veil by Joyce Jackson.

Nicola already had purples and plums in her mind before she even found her venue and it worked perfectly within the Belle Epoque. There really wasn’t any other florist for her than Knutsford Bloom, and the best of all — they are just over the road from the venue!

Nicola said that the Belle Epoque was already so perfectly decorated, but even more excitingly, the Christmas decoration would be up and doesn’t it look absolutely beautiful. The large tree stood in the window in front of the dance floor and a large wreath ran up the stair case. We were so kindly invited to the evening, to see Nicola in her dress and the venue in all it’s glory.

This beautiful cake was created by Mrs B’s Queens of Cakes and the flowers came from Knutsford Bloom.

I absolutely fell in love with Nicola’s photographers and their style. The Belle Epoque is a hard venue to photograph as it can be dark in areas and Rustic Lovebirds really captured her day so beautifully.

Our Bride Kathryn

Our beautiful bride Kathryn was married in the summer last year at Manchester Town Hall. She wore the beautiful lace Callista Bridal Gown Santorini. The dress had lovely lace straps but Kathryn added bespoke cap sleeves. Her veil was by Rainbow Club and her headband was from Ivory & Co.

We loved working with Kathryn on her dream dress and her appointments were so much fun. I was so happy when her photographs popped up in my email. Thank you so much for sharing your special day with us.

Our new Ronald Joyce & Victoria Jane dresses – Arriving Soon

halle-blog-1The new year has arrived, and with it the fast-approaching arrival of the new Ronald Joyce & Victoria Jane wedding dresses. Over the next few weeks our new gowns will be arriving ready for all our new year bridal appointments. With a mixture of the new seasons designs and a couple of their best sellers – all arriving in sizes 18+.

Why do we love Ronald Joyce?

Looking for a non-plus-size designer who can cater to and design dresses that work on a fuller figure is hard.

The questions we have to ask ourselves – Have they been sized up correctly? Is there enough structure in the bodice? Will our brides like the styles and fabrics this designer uses?

The answer is YES! This is why we love Ronald Joyce. Our brides find the gowns as structured and flattering as our specialist Plus Size designer. The collection is available in sizes 8 – 30 and we have sold to brides of all sizes above an 18. With beautiful lace and classic shapes, these are modern gowns that are available to a fuller figured bride.

We can’t wait for them to all arrive – so here is a sneak peek of what is coming.

Our Bride Melanie

Our Bride Melanie married her lovely fiancé Glyn in October 2016 at Holland Hall, Skelmersdale. She wore Callista’s gown London and had beautiful flowers by AM Flowers.

We want to wish them both a wonderful life together. Thank you for allowing me to share your beautiful images.

Edith & Winston 2016 – Our Year In Review.

Edith & Winston 2016 – Our Year In Review.

2016 is coming to a close and we are enjoying a few days off with our family and friends before reopening the boutique doors to 2017.

What a year we have had, meeting so many amazing and beautiful brides. We have attended the weddings of quite a few of you and had the chance to see how beautiful you looked in your wedding dresses. We have had our image on the front cover of a magazine as well as attended some fancy award ceremonies around the country. Even being awarded Warrington’s Business Woman Of The Year, which was pretty incredible for a girl who decided to do art instead of business studies at high school.

This is the first year where our brides have gotten married in every month of the year. With the arrival of baby Connie in November, the first Edith & Winston Baby arrived. Four more of our beautiful brides are due in the new year and we are so excited for them all.

So we would like to share with you some of our highlights from 2016 as well as some beautiful photographs of our brides.

Let’s start with the magazines and bridal blogs

This year has been wonderful, so many bridal & wedding blogs have embraced Plus Size and ran our stories, blog posts and real weddings.

We have been so lucky and had our image by Stephen McGowan featured on the front cover of our favourite Plus Size magazine – Pretty Pear Bride – who also ran a story on our beautiful Isla Gladstone photoshoot.

As well as being featured inside The Ultimate Wedding Magazine with our post “Finding Plus Size Bridal Inspiration”, our photoshoots with Georgina Horne – Fuller Figure Fuller Bust have been featured in Little White Books, Cheshire & Lancashire Bride Magazine, and Lancashire & North West Magazine. We also featured in the wedding trade publication Bridal Buyer who talked about the rise in Plus Size Boutiques across the country.

Our photoshoots

We are so lucky that we have met and become friends with so many talented wedding industry specialists and they have helped create our beautiful  photoshoots. I haven’t always been happy with the way our designers shoot their collections, they often don’t represent what the Plus Size bride really looks like, and what she wants to see from an image – a beautiful dress with a happy smiling bride.

This year we worked with Georgina, Nancy and Nicola. We ran a competition and found two new amazing and beautiful women who will be modelling for us in 2017 – Kasi & Tina. We hope that you like our photoshoots as much as we enjoy creating them. Here are a few of our favourite images from this year.

Edith & Winston – Our Brides.

Not only have we seen our photoshoots embraced by the bridal magazines, we have also had both Amy’s and Jenny’s weddings featured in the real wedding section of both Yorkshire Bride and Cheshire Bride.

We are so grateful when brides allow us to share their beautiful wedding pictures, every wedding is so unique and beautiful. Here are a few of our beautiful brides from 2016.

And all the rest…

This year has been so much fun,

We had our first ever stand at the Great Northern Wedding Show and watched our gowns walk down the catwalk, which was brilliant to see! We can’t wait to go back in September 2017. We also had a stand at the Curve Fashion Festival which was one of our top days in 2016. We had a ball meeting so many amazing women of all shapes, sizes and ages who all enjoyed a day of shopping in Liverpool. Not only did we talk to so many bloggers and the general public it was quite exciting meeting Tess Holliday, Hayley Hasslehoff and the girls from Gogglebox.

And to top it all off we made the final six of the Bridal Buyer’s Best New Retailer. This was such a shock and an honour, as within the bridal industry these awards are like the Oscars. We weren’t expecting a Plus Size retailer to ever get to that stage and we were so proud to go along on to the awards back in September.

Thanks to our amazing brides we also reached the final 5 of The Wedding Industry Awards in our first year of entering, plus the County Brides Awards and also the British Plus Size Awards. So we thank you for the nominations and votes from you all.

plus-size-boutique-award-nominatedThank you to everyone who has made 2016 a success. For more blog posts visit here. To find out who our wedding industry friends are please click on Friends of the boutique and please follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

We wish you all a wonderful end to 2016 and a brilliant 2017.

Edith & Winston Bridalwear – Our Bride Jenny

The Wedding of Jennifer & Adam at Manchester Registry Office.Today we have a special wedding to feature on our blog, this time it’s our bride Jenny.

Why is this a special wedding you ask? It’s because I have grown up with Jenny; she was my sister’s friend at school, and she would often be round at my house or my sister at hers. The girls lost touch a little after high school and then one day Jenny popped back into my life when she got engaged to Adam.

Jenny chose a white Kelsey Rose gown and wore fresh flowers in her hair. I was lucky enough to attend in the evening and see the happy couple and their Krispy Kreme tower for myself. What made this wedding even more exciting was that Jenny had mentioned that she wasn’t having a photographer and so these pictures came as quite a shock! I am so happy that she had Paul Bell Photography there to capture her day.

Edith & Winston Bridalwear – Our Bride Naomi

Our lovely bride and friend Naomi first visited Edith & Winston Bridalwear in 2015, she was getting married to her wonderful Sami and the wedding celebration was taking place in Abu Dhabi where the couple had recently moved.

Naomi chose Callista Bridal’s lace gown London as her wedding dress and it was the perfect choice for this destination wedding. Naomi has kindly allowed me to show you some of her wedding pictures taken by Bernie & Bindi from her wedding in April 2016.

Naomi is such a beautiful person inside and out and I am so happy to call her one of my friends. Hopefully we will get the chance to meet up with the happy couple next year when we fly out to Australia, with a little stop in Dubai.
